Korean Galbi Stew (Beef Short Ribs version)

This is one of my fave dish in Korea back in 2010-2013, simple sweet stew of beef short ribs served well with steamed rice. Yummy to the max. This dish is very popular among the families in Korea. Yet, I am making the thicker style of stew here. Here we go!
(Teman-teman yang gemar masakan Korea pasti dah pada tahu masakan yang satu ini. Galbi Stew adalah masakan khas Korea yang dibuat dari iga sapi dengan sedikit kuah tapi rasanya manis gurih. Terkenal wajib untuk hidangan di rumah, karena rasanya yang nikmat dan cocok pula untuk menjamu tamu. Yuk, bikin bareng-bareng!)
Ingredients:
- 200 grams of beef short ribs (iga sapi segar)
- 2 medium onions (bawang bombay)
- 3 cloves of garlic (bawang putih)
- 3 tablespoons of sweet soy sauce (kecap manis)
- 2 tablespoons of sugar (gula)
- 2 tablespoons of honey (madu)
- 4 tablespoons of soy sauce (kecap asin)
- 1/8 teaspoons of black pepper (bubuk merica hitam)
- 1 tablespoon of oil (minyak sayur/goreng)
- 500 ml of water
Steps:
1. Wash and cut the short ribs, garlic, and onions.
(Cuci bersih dan potong-potong iga sapi, bawang putih dan bawang bombay.)
2. In a pot on medium heat, pour in the oil and saute the garlic until golden brown, then put in the onions, saute until golden brown.
(Pada sebuah panci diatas api medium, tuang minyak goreng dan mulai tumis bawang putih hingga kecoklatan dan masukkan bawang bombay, tumis lagi hingga bombay kecoklatan.)
3. Put in the ribs and mix well for 3 minutes.
(Masukkan iga sapi dan aduk rata selama 3 menit.)
4. Pour in the soy sauce, sweet soy sauce, sugar, salt, honey, and black pepper. Mix well for 3 minutes.
(Masukkan kecap asin, kecap manis, gula, garam, madu, dan bubuk merica hitam. Aduk rata hingga 3 menit.)
5. Pour in 500 ml of water to the pot and cover the pot with its lid. Boil for 1 hour or so until the ribs soft and tender.
(Tuang 500 ml air kedalam panci dan tutup pancinya. Rebus iga selama 1 jam atau lebih hingga iga lembut dan empuk.)
6. After 1 hour of boiling, take out the cooked onions from the pot and crush it well using fork (they should be really soft by now), Put back into pot and boil for another 15 minutes. Done! Serve the galbi warm with your fave carbs!
(Setelah direbus selama 1 jam, keluarkan bawang bombay yang ada dalam panci dan hancurkan dengan menggunakan garpu (bawang bombaynya pasti udah lembut banget karena direbus), kembalikan ke dalam panci dan rebus kembali selama 15 menit. Selesai! Sajikan hangat bersama nasi putih panas! Yummm)
